Eighth Air Force :: Prints
From 1942 to 1945, the USAAF's Eighth Air Force operated from airfields in eastern England. Able to field 2,000 bombers and 1,000 fighters on a single mission, it's formidable strength earnt it the title "The Mighty Eighth". Unlike Bomber Command, the Eighth Air Force flew its missions over Germany and occupied Europe in daylight. By the end of the war, the 8th had taken 47,000 casualties, including 26,000 dead.
The Eighth Air Force operated many types of aircraft, but perhaps the most iconic are the B17 Flying Fortress and the P51 Mustang. Both were familiar sights over the skies of Europe between 1942 and 1945. We have four prints featuring these aircraft, two of which are signed by original Eighth Air Force air crew.
