Memorial to Flight Lieutenant Jimmy Paterson ::

There were nearly some last minute glitches for Geoff and the Shoreham Aircraft Museum guys, but on the day it all came together. Yesterday the memorial to Flight Lieutenant Jimmy Paterson was dedicated. Jimmy died when his Spitfire crashed into field at Eynsford on 27 September 1940, just down the road from the Museum.

Battle of Britain Memorial
The turnout was overwhelming, with more than 100 people in attendance, and one very full car park. The guests of honour were Jimmy's family who had travelled all the way from New Zealand to be there.

If you live in the South-East of England, you may have seen the TV coverage of the service and the Spitfire flypast. If you missed it, we've posted a few photos on Flickr.

There's more info about the ceremony on the BBC News site.

New Avi-Art Ebay Shop ::

Yes, we finally did it...

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Aviation-Art-by-Geoff-Nutkins

One of the inevitabilities of producing aviation art is that you find yourself with leftovers. These might be the last few prints in a limited edition, a few extra-special 'regular' prints that have been signed by some distinguished pilots, or perhaps prints produced for a specific occasion in the past.

Geoff has been producing prints for over 20 years now, and as a result he has amassed a huge number of these 'leftovers', and some of them are absolute gems!

He has prints signed by Sergeant Ray Holmes, Squadron Leader David Dennis, Flying Officer Roy Ford and Squadron Leader Bob Beardsley (all sadly no longer with us).

He has prints with Luftwaffe signatures including those of Oberst Hajo Herrmann, Leutnant Walter Schuck, Hauptmann Georg Greiner and Oberleutnant Ernst Matthes.

He has prints featuring the Scenes of the Battle of Britain paintings from before the Scenes of the Battle of Britain collection was even conceived.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg!

We've always held back from offering these prints on the main Avi-Art website because of the high maintenance involved in selling one-off prints. But now we've come up with a simple solution - the Avi-Art Ebay Shop!

Our main website - www.aviartnutkins.com - will continue to offer our core stock and new releases, but if you're looking for something out of the ordinary or from Geoff's dim and distant past, try the Ebay Shop. We are slowly adding more and more prints as Geoff discovers them, and have plans to offer a few pieces of original artwork in the near future.

We're still experimenting with selling formats, so you'll find we have prints selling under Auctions, Buy-it-Now and Make an Offer. If you think we should try something else, or if you just want to make an offer, drop us a line.

If you don't find anything to tempt you at the moment, keep checking back. Remember, we only have a very few of each of these prints, often just one. If you have an Ebay account, you might like to add us to your Favourite Shops to make sure you don't miss a bargain!

Lancaster bomber fly past ::

If you happen to live near Shoreham Village and lost any roof tiles today, we're really sorry!

Geoff and Lesley played host to a group of RAF guys from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight on Saturday morning.

By way of thanks, the BoBMF returned on Sunday afternoon,

. . . in a Lancaster bomber,

. . . flying very, very low,

. . . twice!

Our thanks to the guys for the fantastic display. For those who weren't lucky enough to be there, here are a few bomber's-eye view photos. That's us right in front of the nose!

Battle of Britain Signatures ::

Today's Battle of Britain Day, so here is some related news...

Astonishing as it may seem, our flagship collector's print, Salute to the Few has just been upgraded.

Every remaining print now has an additional nine pilot signatures, bringing the total on each of these prints to twenty-eight! Every one of these signatures comes from a Royal Air Force pilot who served during the Battle of Britain, making this a really remarkable item.

Salute to the Few
is one of Geoff's most popular paintings. This particular edition of just 100 was produced with the intention of gathering as many signatures as possible, and has been a project lasting many years. Whenever Geoff plays host to a member of The Few, he sits them down with a cup of tea and a pencil!

Here is the complete list of pilots who have now individually hand-signed each of these prints:

  • Flight Lieutenant Don Anderson
    (604 Squadron)
  • Wing Commander Peter Ayerst
    (7 OTU)
  • Air Commodore Clive Baker
    (23 Squadron)
  • Squadron Leader Paddy Barthropp
    (602 Squadron)
  • Wing Commander Peter Brown
    (611 & 41 Squadrons)
  • Flight Lieutenant Joseph Chamberlain
    (235 Squadron)
  • Flight Lieutenant Terry Clarke
    (219 Squadron)
  • Flying Officer Jimmy Corbin
    (610 & 66 Squadrons)
  • Flying Officer Mike Croskell
    (213 Squadron)
  • Wing Commander Bob Doe
    (234 & 238 Squadrons)
  • Wing Commander Billy Drake
    (213 & 1 Squadron)
  • Flying Officer Roy Ford
    (41 Squadron)
  • Flight Lieutenant Trevor Gray
    (64 Squadron)
  • Flight Lieutenant Les Harvey
    (54 Squadron)
  • Flying Officer Donald Hulbert
    (257 & 501 Squadrons)
  • Flying Officer Richard Jones
    (64 & 19 Squadrons)
  • Colonel Henry Lafont
    (615 Squadron)
  • Wing Commmander Keith Lawrence
    (234 & 603 Squadrons)
  • Flight Lieutenant Robin Lucas
    (141 Squadron)
  • Wing Commander Ken Mackenzie
    (501 Squadron)
  • Squadron Leader Jocelyn Millard
    (1 & 242 Squadrons)
  • Wing Commander Tom Neil
    (249 Squadron)
  • Group Captain Hubert Penfold
    (56 Squadron)
  • Wing Commander Jack Rose
    (32 & 3 Squadrons)
  • Group Captain Desmond Sheen
    (72 Squadron)
  • Flight Lieutenant Arthur Smith
    (229 Squadron)
  • Squadron Leader Gerald 'Stapme' Stapleton
    (603 Squadron)
  • Squadron Leader Geoff Wellum
    (92 Squadron)

Impressive, eh? We don't have many of these prints remaining, so if you want one, don't leave it too long before you place an order!
