Local Memorials Project ::

In support of the Shoreham Aircraft Museum's Local Memorials Project, we are pleased to announce the addition of two new Individuals portraits to our collection - Flight Lieutenant Jimmy Paterson and Sergeant Trevor Oldfield.

All proceeds from the sale of these prints - along with the existing portrait of Flying Officer Nat Barry - will go directly to the Project.

The Local Memorials Project aims to erect permanent memorials to all those Battle of Britain pilots who lost their lives within a ten miles radius of Shoreham Village. Each memorial will be as close as possible to the place where each of the pilots lost their lives.

The first of these memorials was dedicated on 27th September 2006 to Flight Lieutenant James Paterson of 92 Squadron, who died exactly 66 years earlier on the same spot. The service was attended by members of the Paterson family who had travelled all the way from New Zealand to be there.

The second memorial - to Flying Officer Nathaniel Barry of 501 Squadron, who died on 7th October 1940 - will be dedicated on 26th May 2007 at Court Lodge Farm, Darenth near Dartford, Kent. It will be accompanied by a Hurricane flypast.

The third memorial - to Sergeant Trevor Oldfield, also of 92 Squadron, who died on the same day as Jimmy Paterson - will be dedicated on 27th September 2007 at Hesketh Park, Dartford, Kent. This will be accompanied by a Spitfire flypast.

The Local Memorials Project is an ambitious and expensive undertaking. There are plans to dedicate a further three memorials in 2008. To help achieve this goal, Geoff has produced portraits of the brave men whose lives are remembered by the first three memorials. These portraits are available for just £17.50 plus postage. All proceeds from their sale goes directly to the Local Memorials Project. If you would like to show your support, you'll find the prints on the Individuals page.
